Geothermal HVAC Systems

Paul's Air FX specializes in installing powerful and long-lasting geothermal systems. Although they require a more in-depth and intensive installation process, they are hailed for their ability to provide consistent, reliable, and stable heating and cooling year-round. With a geothermal unit, your system will use the temperature of the ground just below the surface as a consistent heat source year-round.

How Do Geothermal Systems Work? (H3)

  • The ground loop is a piping system that is buried under the surface. A closed loop runs out of the system and into the ground, then back into the system. An open-loop runs into a nearby lake, pond, ell, or other water sources. The piping system is filled with fluids that transfer the heat.

  • The geothermal heat pump exchanges heat between the air and ground loop. Heat is extracted from the air or the ground loop depending on if our home needs heating or cooling.

  • The distribution system is the method that delivers the conditioned air throughout the home. Conventional geothermal systems (or "fired air" systems) use conventional ductwork to deliver air.

  • Some geothermal heating and cooling systems use hydronic distribution, a network of fluid-filled piping that runs throughout the home. Instead of between the air and ground loop fluid, the heat pump exchanges heat between the ground loop and the hydronic system that runs throughout the home.

Benefits of a Geothermal System (H3)

  • High energy efficiency: The temperature under the ground remains relatively constant year-round (72-87F year-round), meaning that your energy use will not fluctuate quite as much as with other systems. Although they are more costly to install, they use significantly less energy overall.

  • Low environmental footprint: Geothermal energy is emission-free, meaning you can drastically reduce your home's carbon footprint and help preserve the environment.

  • Longer lifespan: Geothermal systems are known for being able to outlast other kinds of HVAC systems. Due to their relatively simplistic nature, they require significantly less maintenance.
